Tijuana have no new injury news.

Monterrey’s Rodolfo Pizarro returns to action after he was suspended because he received a red card against Guadalajara two weeks ago.

Tijuana were thrashed 4-0 away against Pachuca last weekend. The visitors conceded to Jaine Barreiro after just ten minutes and Jose Ulloa doubled the lead five minutes later. In the second half, Tijuana conceded another two goals to Edwin Cardona. The loss brought an end to an unbeaten streak of five league fixtures (four wins, one draw) for Oscar Pareja’s side. Tijuana have now slipped to sixth place in the table, but have a respectable haul of 16 points. In their current form, Tijuana will still be confident that qualification for the playoffs is on the cards this season. Tijuana won 1-0 away against Monarcas Morelia in the cup in midweek.

Monterrey were held to a 1-1 home draw in a league match against Tigres UANL last weekend. Rogelio Funes Mori netted a crafty back heel goal in the 34th minute but the visitors went on to dominate possession. Tigres UANL finally equalised with a diagonal shot from Luis Quinones in the 81st minute. With the draw, Monterrey fell to third place in the table, one point behind second-placed Tigres UANL and leaders Club Leon. Diego Alonso’s side remain the only unbeaten team in the league this term, with a total of six wins and four draws. Monterrey lost 1-0 away against MLS side Atlanta United in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final tie in midweek. After a 3-1 aggregate win, they have reached the next stage of the competition.

I am picking Monterrey to take all three points from this league game. Unbeaten this season and sitting in the top three, the visitors will enter this league match with the confidence and momentum to take the win.

Three of Tijuana’s four league matches as hosts this term have ended with a scoreline of three or more total goals. On the other hand, six of Monterrey’s ten league games this season have ended with three or more total goals. Given that form, I'm backing another high-scoring league match here.

Both teams are evenly matched over their past seven encounters in the league and playoffs with two wins each and three draws. Monterrey claimed a 3-0 win over Tijuana when the teams last met in the league in September.
