MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

The seventh-placed Newcastle Jets have catapulted themselves into finals calculations following an impressive run which has seen them collect 11 points from their past five league fixtures, moving within four points of sixth-placed Melbourne City. They beat Melbourne Victory 2-0 at a neutral venue in their most recent league contest two weeks ago - and another win here would be huge for their top six aspirations.

The lowly Central Coast Mariners have gone from bad to worse, smashed 8-2 by Wellington Phoenix at home in the last round, leading to coach Mike Mulvey’s dismissal. Rooted to the bottom of the league table with seven points, there is little to play for except local pride.

The Central Coast Mariners have claimed one point from their past seven league matches, so there is only one result here. Newcastle wins.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO - HIGH

With little to play for, the Central Coast Mariners have conceded 13 goals in their past two league matches, but all the while they have also scored five themselves. The Newcastle Jets will be out to capitalise on their opponents’ defensive woes, with confidence high after their 2-0 away win at Melbourne Victory where Dimitri Petratos scored a screamer. A high-scoring affair seems likely.

HEAD TO HEAD

The Newcastle Jets have won their past five league meetings with the Central Coast Mariners, including an 8-2 mauling at this stage last season.
