Real Valladolid: Out of form ( Recent Form: D D L W L )

Real Valladolid was one of the tastemakers of the first half of the season, but in recent weeks the PhD student has moved further and further away in the rankings. Although Michel's team is still in a safe 14th place, the difference with the relegation zone is only two points. The remaining sixteen rounds of play promise to be extremely exciting. The decline of Real Valladolid is mainly due to a failing defense. Last week goalkeeper Joel Masip was passed no less than four times in the away match against the last team from Huesca: 4-0. In the first twelve league matches, the Madrid players only had to give nine counter-hits, but in the last ten rounds of play they received no less than nineteen counter-goals. Michel will therefore have to find a way to repair his defense, although he will have to make it Friday night without best defender Fernando Calero, who is holding a suspension. It is likely that Joaquin Fernandez, who came into action once this season, will fill in his position. Also in the forefront, Real Valladolid has big problems, because with only nineteen goals they are the least scoring team of La Liga. The wintry arrival of Sergi Guardiola was a good move, although the attacker did not score in his first two matches for his new employer.

Villarreal: Sinking submarine ( Recent Form: L L D L D )

Villarreal recently frowned the eyebrows by re-appointing trainer Javi Calleja just 50 days after his resignation. A cat in the tight makes strange jumps, because with a penultimate place Villarreal is in acute degradation. Calleja must now ensure that The Yellow Submarine does not sink to the bottom of the ocean. The situation of Villarreal is of course unimaginable, because in terms of player material the club naturally belongs in the left row. However, the ranking does not lie. Last weekend, at home against Espanyol, things went wrong again. With the help of star Santi Cazorla, Villarreal seemed to make an important 2-0 victory, but after playing in the defense it went wrong in the last fifteen minutes: 2-2. The thoughts on the stands of Ceramica undoubtedly went back to the 2011-2012 season. Even then, Villarreal had a very nice team, but still relegated to the Segunda Division. Fortunately, Calleja again has defender Victor Ruiz on Friday-evening, which is available again after a suspension. He will take over from Daniele Bonera, who played a dramatic match against Espanyol.

After all, my preference goes to the visitors in this game. Villarreal played an excellent game at Calleja's return last week, but two defensive errors ultimately cost the team the victory. On Friday night Villarreal can again have Victor Ruiz. Real Valladolid is in a difficult phase and has to do without a rock-in-the-surf Calero. With six draws in the last nine official games, however, Villarreal has recently had a season ticket, so that's why I prefer to bet the away team draw no bet.
