Oghenekaro Etebo and Sam Vokes both still have groin issues for Stoke. Sam Clucas is suspended for this one.

Reading’s Tom McIntyre, Andy Rinomhota, Anssi Jaakkola, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Liam Kelly, Nelson Oliveira, Sam Baldock and Saeid Ezatolahi are all doubts. Jordan Obita is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.

Stoke, who were plying their trade in England’s top tier last term, have had a bang average campaign in the second division this season. The Potters currently sit in a lowly 17th place having taken just 46 points from 37 league matches. Nathan Jones’ side have improved of late, though, unbeaten in their last six league matches with one win and five draws. Stoke drew 0-0 at Derby in midweek.

Before crashing to a heavy 3-0 league defeat to promotion candidates Leeds in midweek, Reading had won two league matches in a row, seeing off rock-bottom Ipswich (2-1) and strugglers Wigan (3-2). In fact, the Royals have shown a big improvement under Jose Gomes, losing just two of their last nine league fixtures (three wins, four draws). However, the Berkshire club still have work to do in the race for survival, as they are having the same points as the bottom three and just lead by goal difference with nine league games to go.

Stoke have been average at home in the league this season, having picked up eight league wins, four draws and six losses at the bet365 Stadium this season, but they should have enough to get past Reading this weekend. I’m siding with a narrow home win.

Stoke have scored exactly two goals in six of their eight home league wins this season and have won five of their last seven league victories by one goal. I can see them sneaking a 2-1 victory here.

Reading’s last league win over Stoke came back in 2006, with two of the last three league meetings ending in draws and Stoke winning the other league encounter 2-1 at home six years ago.
