Verdy are reporting no injuries and have no suspensions.

Just as last season the serious injuries start to mount for Tochigi with Ryuji Ito the latest to get a serious knee injury, while Takuma Edamura is also out for at least a month.

Ryohei Hayashi scored both goals as Verdy got their first win of the season last weekend, 2-1 at home to Zweigen Kanazawa. Also their first win under British manager Gary White. The player who was expected to pick up the goals after the loss of three goalscorers in the pre-season – Leandro – was on the bench today. They look a decent team but lack resources and will need a solid goalscorer. Unless Mr. White can perform miracles they will struggle to hit the top six this season but they should really have no problem with today's visitors!

Tochigi lost 1-0 to FC Yokohama's 93rd minute winner last weekend and have now failed to score in their first three matches of this campaign. Last season saw wildly fluctuating form for this team with a run of conceding goals, then a run of brilliant defending. They need to turn it around fast but, from my talks with insiders, it seems they have major problems this season with motivation. Players took pay cuts in order to be able to afford to keep Masashi Oguro. Apparently 60% of the salary budget goes to one player. This is hurting the team as a whole.

With a total lack of goals, motivation and even jealousy within the squad I expect nothing from Tochigi until they fix this, somehow. Meanwhile Verdy will be confident coming off their first win. A home win and maybe some goals to add to Verdy's confidence.

The best bet here, considering I expect Verdy to score more than one and Tochigi to not score at all, will be Verdy to score first! The fact that Verdy scored 16 league goals in the first 15 minutes of games last season (with Tochigi scoring just four in that time) will help this bet!

Last season in J2 Verdy won both meetings between these two teams.
