MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Aston Villa have had some tough league games recently, but Dean Smith’s men have picked up nine points from their league matches against Derby, Birmingham and Nottingham Forest. At the City Ground in midweek, the Villans won 3-1 against Martin O’Neill’s Nottingham Forest. Villa’s thumping 4-0 win over Derby at the start of March, however, was only their second home league victory since late November, having drawn five and lost two league games along the way prior to their midweek league contest.

Middlesbrough have accumulated more points away from home (31) in the league than they have at the Riverside Stadium 27 this season. Since losing 1-0 in the league at high-flying Sheff Utd last month, Tony Pulis’ boys have picked up four points from their last two away league fixtures, beating Blackburn 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with Wigan. In their last league matchup, Boro lost 2-1 against Preston at the Riverside.

Aston Villa’s form has certainly improved of late and, despite Middlesbrough’s good away record, I fancy the home team to pick up a crucial three points at Villa Park this weekend.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – ASTON VILLA

Aston Villa have scored first in all bar one of their seven league wins at Villa Park this term. Have a punt on Villa to open the scoring in this one.

HEAD TO HEAD

Aston Villa ran out 3-0 winners at the Riverside Stadium in the league earlier in the season. Meanwhile, the Villans have not lost to Boro in league action since 2008, winning three and drawing three times.
