Universidad Concepcion’s Hans Martinez, Jose Huentelaf and Luis Pedro Figueroa have all recovered from their injuries, so Fernando Manriquez will be the lone absentee.

Lucas Aveldano and Rodrigo Echeverria stand out as Universidad Chile’s most noteworthy injured players, but both Sergio Vittor and Jean Beausejour have a slim chance of returning to the squad this weekend. Coach Frank Kudelka has left.

Universidad Chile

Universidad Concepcion have failed to win in their first three league matches (one draw, two losses) and are coming off a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Palestino. The team have a league match in hand, but are finding themselves rooted to the bottom of the table. El Campanil have been playing below expectations in the league so far this season, with their defence failing phenomenally last time out. They also played against Paraguayan outfit Olimpia Asuncion in a Copa Libertadores group game in midweek where they drew 1-1 in neutral ground.

Universidad Chile have been struggling as well, with their most recent league match a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home against Union Espanola. They were the dominating force in that league fixture and were leading until the 71st minute but then conceded two late goals.   Los Azules have kicked off their league campaign with only one win, one draw and two losses, which is a poor record considering the strength of their squad.

Both sides have underachieved thus far. Expect that trend to continue as I think they will cancel each other out.

Universidad Chile have scored first in three of their four league games this season. Expect that trend to continue.

The head-to-head record between both has been even of late. The last five league encounters have seen two wins for each side and one draw.
